My goldfish is sick. It has these little black/gray spots all over his body? I had two of them, but the other one died because he got cut on a shell in teh tank:(. Maybe thats what caused tis one to get infected. Please help me treat him before its too late?

Hi, I'm sorry for your loss, I hope you have removed the shell from your tank? You should always check to see if there's anything that could injure your fish before putting it in the tank & that includes anything sharp or pointed.

This condition sounds like the after-effects of high ammonia, you need to check your parameters & do an immediate partial water change with same temperature, treated water to dilute the concentration. You need to do this regularly to prevent your ammonia getting out of control, I'm assuming your tank is not fully cycled. The link may be of some help. Any ammonia reading above zero is stressful as well as dangerous for fish. Good luck & I hope he makes it.

Sorry to hear about your goldfish.

Black spots are comon on some types of goldfish. If they are really little black spots like pepper, chances are he has black ich and needs to be treated just like ich. It is a parasite.

Shells have no place in a fresh water tank unless you are attempting to raise the PH.

Are these spots on the fins as well as the body ? IF so,sounds like ICK and you can get drops at your local pet store that sells fish related products even wal-mart. If your near a petsmart I know they will also test your water free for you to tell you if its the right PH balance or not. If your fish have ICK your water is to hot or cold. If you don't already have a thermometer get one while your at the store.

well to me it seems that it might be black smudge infection
which is a not well known illness
and can only be confirmed if the black or gray spots start to cover the entire body
but besides that
it might be just a color change with your fish

What is the temperature of your water? Goldfish like it cold (like 68 degrees)

And during the summer months it can be stressful on them, making them good candidates for infection and disease brought on by stress.

This happened to my last 2 goldfish. Go to the local pet shop and let them know the problem. There are chemicals you can put in the bowl to help. For me, the problem persisted and both fish ended up dying. :(
