There is no ending in Gantz yet. The anime does not go into the little alien, dinosaurs arc, the Oni arc (the best arc), and the Vampire Arc. Gantz: First phase ended in japan with a huge cliffhanger. The manga has started Gantz: Second Phase and picks up after the tragic incidents in first phase.
The anime never explains what happens when you don't kill all the aliens in the set time or the true origins of the black ball.

when the anime was made the manga wasn't even close to completion, so you have to translate your own ending of what you think happened predictably however my take on it was that he showed gantz what for and it released him due to the fact that he stood up to it, there was no blood or sounds of him being hit by the train like there usually was a bloody mess when people died it was made to be open ended
