The economy is "booming" so to speak, because people are employed and overall prices are in check with normal inflation. Obviously, not all prices rise (or sometimes fall) at the same rate, so this a general consensus. Although energy prices have soared, most consumer items from food to electronics are actually much more affordable than they were in years past. Just ask your dad what he paid for a television or watch just twenty years ago.

If you're in the top 10% of wage-earners in the country, or among the top 1% of the wealthiest people in the nation, you're doing really well right now. The rest of us haven't even had a reasonable pay raise (adjusted for inflation) in more than seven years. But the worst is yet to come:
I predict this nation will see the worst economic depression in its history shortly after Bush leaves office, due to his reckless economic policies and runaway 'war' spending. That's why you won't see a real aggressive campaign on the part of Republican candidates in 2008. They don't want to get elected and then get blamed for the recession. They'll let the Democrats take the hit and come back in 2012 as heroes - and the sad thing is their 'ditto head' brainwashed dyed-in-the-wool Republican sheep will believe it!! -RKO- 06/17/07

We are told that the economy is "booming", and this is based on the inflation rate being low, but the inflation rate is not a true indication of the cost living, housing costs, and gasoline costs of course are not included, in fact nothing is included that has dramatically increased in price. gas electricty and other household bills don't count.
We are considerably worse off, but you can't rely on the government statistics to tell us that, but we only have to check our pockets.
Wage increases, are nowhere near keeping up with the cost of living, even considering the cheap goods we can can buy (produced by slave labor in china)
The rich get richer, and the poor get poorer, but only as long as the poor allow it.
The top 1% own 80% of the wealth, but their house of cards will only continue to exploit us until the other 99% wake up.

developed nations with their shrewd policy have made the poor poorer the rich richer,by giving loans at highrate of interest which inturn is used to purchase arms from them at 100 times the cost for wars fought in borders of143countries ,the fights/wars are for business of arms to flourish .and susidise food intheir countries by 3oo%,by the profits they earn from the poor, our farmers r not earning 15rs/day wage as the prices r 300%low have stopped farming, and work as labourers in city earning 100rs/day,resulting in shortage of food and more demand, hence higher price at which the developed nation will sell u.ultimately the farmers who form 65% of population are wiped out.and the city pays 300% more for their survival

You don't say which country you are in. We don't have a ruling class in the US. Prices always go up. In the US the government does not (and better not) intervene.
