I've always preferred reading. Listening to music (or better still, playing music) would be a close second. Watching movies would be much farther down on the list. I like reading because I can truly escape in that way. I lose myself in words, and at the end of the book, at the least, I've been entertained, and I often end up learning something I didn't know before. Same with school textbooks. Even if they're dry and occasionally dull, I can still learn something new. Also, reading is a more intellectually active pursuit than passive entertainment, such as listening to music or watching a movie. With a book, I don't just sit there allowing some third party to entertain me, but as a reader, I find myself taking an active role in the story, interpreting, critiquing, and analyzing it.

It really depends on my mood. If I'm getting ready to go out or cleaning or something like than then I like to listen to music. For pure entertainment I prefer watching a movie. Back when I actually got a lunch break I would read.
