I know that the KKK originated in the south, and the south overwhelmingly voted for Bush. Would it be logical to state that the KKK is a branch of the republican party?

Very logical. Simply compare the group of Dem presidential candidates to the Repub candidates and believe what is right in front of your eyes.

Believe it or not, up until the 60s, it was the other way around. True conservatives marched alongside Martin Luther King Jr while the "Dixie-crats", George Wallace (Dem gov of Alabama) promoted segregation.

After the Civil Rights movement succeeded, the "Dixie-crats" flocked to, and took over, the Republican party. Hence, birth of the neo-con.

I'd say the KKK endorses the Republicans, because they actually have a winning shot as opposed to the smaller, more radical parties.

It makes sense.

And the cons on here who say that Byrd is a Democrat, and therefore KKK supports Dems are just plain stupid. They know nothing of how the South radically changed from Democrat to Republican in the 60s when Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of '64 or '65 (can't really remember).

Since John C doesn't bother to do his homework, yes the KKK were originally democrats. they split from the original democrat party forming a subgroup known as the Southern Democrats. Eventually most of the Southern Democrats where assimilated into the Republican party.
Were they Democrats? yes
are most of them democrats now? NO, all you have to do is ask someone in a South that still flies a confederate flag, how they vote, and most of them will tell you Republican.

I highly doubt going to a KKK meeting and claiming to be a white, liberal, atheist or agnostic would go over real well. They would kick the Athiest out of you, beat Jesus into you, and welcome you to the right-wing.

I really don't think the KKK endorses either of the two major political parties but they are on terms with the Aryan Nation group and the Neo Nazi extremists. This places them on the side of the fundamentalist religious extremists and right wing conservative ideology

Most of the KKK's public statements sound just like the statements of the Republican party.

Bear in mind, though, that just because much of the KKK may support Republicans does not mean that much of the Republicans support the KKK.

I am sure there are White Supremest in the Republican Party.

They are WASP's who hate everyone except the white rich! A party of hate and exclusion!

That is just where the KKK belongs!

I would bet that they support some white supremacist party. Not either of the main parties. Because remember, it was the Republican party ta ht got rid of slavery.
