No offense to Christian heavy metal fans, but I completely agree with you. If you're going to sing about God, Jesus and the Holy Ghost, you shouldn't be doing it with all the hard and heavy music. And I think it's mainly an oxymoron because most metalheads are Atheists, the exact opposite of Christians. And yes, the screams do sound angry and evil, which does not send the message that they love God. So you're right.

It's simply another form of music. Like how not all people like rap, or new age, not all people like the traditional christan music. It's another newer way to enjoy christan music, and I'll agree that the screaming can be a bit odd at first, but you have to realize, there is no happy scream. Its a type of rock, and not all heavy metal is sad/depressing/etc. To judge it solely on the screaming is to not fully understand that type of music.
Personally, I like it, though thats just me.

I have a good friend that listens to christian heavey metal. He likes it because not every christian is all "bubbly" all the time, they go through things like everybody else does, and screamo music just reflects the stress or the love to God. Its the same as any other christian music, just a different vocal style. (:

I certainly wouldn't write off the entire genre, as there are some capable acts (Precious Death's "Southpaw" was good), but what is amusing to me is how often many of these artists are critical of the secular world, yet didn't mind stealing their musical styles.
After all, was it really the Religious sect that wrote "The Trooper", "Scream Bloody Gore", or "Raining Blood"?

It's not an oxymoron - I believe it exists to make that "crossover" into the secular listening world and spread the message of love and peace and Christ on radio stations that play music preaching hate and destruction.

I don't have anything against Christian heavy metal bands, but I honestly have no interest in them. If I'm going to listen to Christian music, I like Newsboys and Steven Curtis Chapman, and when I want to listen to heavy metal, I like Guns N Roses and Metallica, but don't mix them. That's just retarded. They go together like mice and elephants.

Much of Christianity and Religion is an oxymoron. What religion doesn't make claim to wanting to protect life? Yet over 100 million people are victims of religion/sectarian violence.

but not all heavy metal is like... ahhh iiii waanntt toooo diiieeee. that would be sort of discriminative. it's just a style and so if musicians who perform that style of music are christians and want to express their religion through their music, let them do whatever the hell they want (no pun intended).
