Right, I'm not talking about here in Y!A, nor am I talking about the people that follow you around in a casino and steal your win. I think I heard something one time in a movie/on tv about what they called a "lurker" something about dead people and spirits...
Has anyone else heard something like this, or something similar?
Can you tell me exactly what a lurker is, in this sense (if I'm using the right word)
If lurker isn't the right word, can you tell me the word I'm looking for...and what it means...
It's been bothering me for hours, please help.

This is kind of a combination of several of the answers you have already received..
In your context a lurker is a spirit generally of a person that has lived or been located at the location, who has been grounded to a particular location post death of their mortal existence.. They do not have to be bad but could be good or a neutral "personality" for lack of a better word.. For some reason that energy, human essence, or spirit is tied to that location.
Usually this is due to a traumatic event or premature death giving the spirit the connection to the place.. It could be the person experience violent death, died prematurely before a good event like a wedding, had a child or other significant loved one die at the location, etc.
Additionally, there are flat out evil essences tied to locations because of something they did or because of something that was done. Depending upon how far you take it, there are some that believe that lurkers can be evil spirits called to a place by a person for a purpose and then refuse to leave for what ever reason...

There are multiple terms and different classifications of the"spirits" but that is as far as my knowledge goes... Do some yahoo searches using the key words spirit, parapsychology, classifications/names and things like that. Wikipedia might have some info that kind of thing.

In Internet culture, a lurker is a person who reads discussions on a message board, newsgroup, chatroom, file sharing or other interactive system, but rarely participates. There are also some who lurk on a forum habitually, and rarely, if ever, contribute. It is generally difficult to guess how many such lurkers are present, due to their silence

From the American Heritage Dictionary,
"lurk

intr.v.
lurked , lurk·ing , lurks
To lie in wait, as in ambush.
To move furtively; sneak.
To exist unobserved or unsuspected: danger lurking around every bend."

The words lurk and lurker have been used in literature and mythology to depict an evil spirit or ghost who lies in wait, generally in a certain area, and ambushes unsuspecting people. Synonyms are ghost and haunt (noun).

The word can also mean real people who hide with the intent to spy on ar harm others.

I believe you are refering to a type of demon that harvests the dead for hell. When someone has sinned in life, they wait for the person to die. They would appear as a black shadowy figure. It is probably related to the modern "Shadow Man" figure and or sleep paralysis episodes.
Also of note are Bodochs. These creatures appear in Dean Koontz "Odd Thomas" series. Also the end scene in Ghost when the creatures drag down the bad guy into hell.

If you don't know what it is, why would you believe the explanation of a total stranger? No ghosts exist, regardless of what you call them, so please do yourself a favor and don't waste your time believing in them.
