I would like to know if some of you kind people can let me know if you agree or disagree with some of my views on marijuana. I don't want to start a debate here, just seeing if I am the only person who thinks like this. My main point is that marijuana is dangerous. I have observed the following reasons in my whole life. They are not scientific findings at all.

1. As much of a cliche that it is, pot truly is a gateway drug. I don't think anybody just wakes up one day and decides to smoke crack. All the kids I knew from high school who went on to be major drug users smoked pot in school.

2. If you use this theory that pot is the gateway drug it has to be linked to at least half of all theft, at least half of all robberies, at least a quarter of all murders, and somewhat involved in at least a third of domestic violence cases. Again these ar all numbers I came up with by myself based on observations in my own town after seeing if first hand at the place I work, and by reading about it.

Now I'm sure many people will use some sort of argument saying that alcohol is just as dangerous. And I totally agree with that. I think laws need to be stricter concerning all types of drugs, but I think marijuana should be taken a little more seriously when it comes to law enforcement.

Oh yes I agree these are the reasons recreational marijuana is illegal, but maybe the question I should have posed is do you think the law is enforced properly when it comes to pot. I certainly think we are to lenient. We could make some good changes if we enforced laws against pot a little bit better.

I want to make it clear that I'm not saying everyone who smokes weed goes and tries harder drugs. But I do think that most people who do hard drugs probably started by smoking weed.

well I personally have seen much of the opposite. my mom, dad, lil brother, cousin, cousin, cousin, cousins boy/f, my boy/f, my best friend, anyway the list could go on and on, are only into smoking weed. they really look down on other people who do the more dangerous drugs and dont even hang around with those kind of people or get any where near them for that matter. the people that I know feel that "weed is all they need" and only use it to relax and chill out. weed can have many good uses. that is why in many states u can get a perscription for it. and by the way u cant overdose on weed its actually physically impossable.
so basically Im saying I have observed weed to be the opposite of a gateway drug. it gives the people i know satisfaction to say this is all i need. ive known even 3 people who quit smoking cigs because weed helped them. and its not like they are smoking even close to the amount of tobacco they would have if u replaced it with weed. its probably more than 10 times less.
also about the law, I personally think it is too harsh. too many cops are waisting there time on getting pot smokers (the most laid back people in the world) when they could be using that time to make more of a difference by catching the kidnappers and people selling "hard" drugs to kids, so on so on.
also id like to add that weed is not adctive like everyone wants to say it is. from my own expierence. as soon as i found out i was pregnant i gave away all my weed to friends and havnt even been near any kind of smoke sence then. and in reality i thought it would be alot harder because i was smoking weed at least 3 times a day. but it wasnt and im fine w/o it but truly i have nothing against it obviously unless u are doing it around children or are doing it while u are pregnant. then i think there should be harsh consiquences

I am 19 years old and have smoked weed on and off since about 15. I know people who have gone on to do drugs and I completely disagree with doing anything other than weed. most everyone I know agree with me on that subject. I have a friend who has been smoking pot at least every other day since he was 14 and had a best friend who hung out with all the same people as he did. when his best friend started doing other drugs my buddy found out and told his best friend that it wasnt ok and if he was gonna do that **** to leave him alone. they had all the same friends and near all the same experiences but one made the choice to do drugs and the other one was completely against it. its not a gateway drug, its a personal choice to do hard drugs. most people I know smoke or have smoked and all the people I have grown up with and have been friends with believe weed is ok but harder drugs are not at all tolerated.

smoking weed can not kill give cancer or have any major effects (unless you use at a very very young age) cigs and alcohol will kill you and those are legal? i think cigs should be illegal and weed should be legal but for 18 and over

Just because some people go on to use harder drugs after using marijuana doesn't mean that marijuana caused them to use harder drugs. The majority of marijuana users DO NOT go on to use harder drugs, let alone become addicted to them.

If you are going to blame a substance for the actions of human beings, obviously you agree with my logic that bread is incredibly dangerous!

Most serial killers were given bread, usually on a daily basis, while they were growing up. Obviously bread causes people to become serial killers.

Face it, people make bad choices all the time. Just because some of those people also happen to use marijuana doesn't mean that the marijuana caused them to make the bad choice that they did. In fact, since the majority of marijuana users DON'T make bad choices (like using hard drugs, committing theft or robbery, or murdering) it seems that it isn't the substances fault that some users have harmed others.

I consider cigarettes and beer the main gateway drugs.

The 'gateway drug' nonsense is just....well, nonsense.

Simply put, your reasons are why marijuana is not legal for recreational use.
