Every campaign I have EVER watched was full of mud slinging...so it's pretty much the way it works anymore.

Not always. I am a bit fed up with some Y!A users who discuss politics, but not ALL. It just seems that about 1/3 of the questions about how either Democrats or Repulicans suck and are terrible. I wish we could actually talk politics and try to help the world.
In real life, it is mostly bashing but there are some huge decisions made. I hope it could be more productive...then we could help the world so much faster.

Yes, and like the other answerers, I believe it has been this way for a long time.
That is sad, because nobody is offering any specific information about what they plan to do to improve things. Instead, they are taking the easy road, and simply pointing out what the other guy is doing wrong. It's much easier to criticize than offer solutions, and this type of campaigning is lazy, ignorant, self-serving, and shows little regard for the actual welfare of the people.
However, this tendency to mud-sling and bash is everyone's fault, and everyone's responsibility. Politicians wouldn't do it if we didn't eat it up. It's up to us to demand more, and not be such suckers for cheap entertainment and simple, evasive answers to complicated issues.

Politics have become about bashing because the country is divided on the war right now. I don't think it's always been this way or it will be in the future after we are out of Iraq. People need to remember that we are one country and we need to stick together. Even when we don't agree, we have to respect each other and keep the end goal in mind.
Love one another!

Unfortunately, politicians have been bashing each other since the days of Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton.

Yep, and while they are all fighting each other over whos right and wrong, the terrorists are laughing and waiting to make their next move while we are all distracted over stupid crap.
Maybe we should just have a Presidential Wrestlemania and throw them all in a ring together and see who wins??

For the most part. Rush Limbaugh perfected the serum and poured it into America's drinking water.

It is only about bashing for those who cannot defend or logically prove their point of view.
