i have several sets of coins uncirculated in wooden boxes. the box says "500 quincentinnial 1492 1992. and the coins on the head say encuentro.de.dos.mundos.isabel la catolica. and the other head says encuentro.de.dos.mundos.cristobal colon. the back side shows santa maria on one and las tres carabelas on the other.
Where can i find out more about the coins and possible values?

They are actually medals. They were issued by Spain as a 500 anniversary item to commemorate Columbus and his ships.There should be a paper with them telling you that. About 10 years ago I stopped at a flea market and bout two sets in their wooden boxes for $5 each. I kept one and gave a fellow numismatist the other. I see one for sale here and there for $10 and up to $20. I am not sure if they actually sell at those prices. With the anniversary over, almost everyone has forgotten Columbus at least for now. I collect historic coins, medals and tokens also fit into the category of numismatics. This is the best i can do. I have not been able to find out the mintage, but it must be some what high.
