In the United States it hit number one in 1976, it was released in 1973 in the U.K.

According to a "Best Of" CD that I have (I'm a DJ, that's my excuse for owning a Bay City Rollers CD, and I'm sticking to it) "Saturday Night" was released in 1975.

'Twas a dark night way back in 75 when an unsuspecting young man was invited to a party. He was well informed in the ways of rock but he was not prepared for the horror that was THE BAY CITY ROLLERS. Later that evening after being exposed to the track you refer to in your question he lapsed into a coma, recovering after a year to find that his boyhood hero Gary Glitter only fiddled with young girls. Truly Crap Scottish bands the Rollers are No1.
