Could my swordtail be pregnant because she has a huge tummy? I don't overfeed her. Once every other day. Other female swordtails are getting a tummy on them as well. One male with six females.

Yes, she's pregnant. They all are. I believe you just asked about using a fish net as a breeding net. Don't worry about it, you will soon have so many swordtail fry (baby swordtails) you won't know what to do with them. Since you have 6 females to your 1 male you might want to just let nature take it's course and not put them in a breeder. Some of the fry will survive naturally, just put some cover in the tank for them to hide in. Otherwise, you might find yourself with several hundred swordtails in a few shorts months.

Swords and mollys are nearly always pregnant. (they can store sperm for months). Gestation is about 30 days depending on water temp. They will get even fatter before they give birth. Provide lots of cover or move them to a "nursery" tank if you want to keep the babies. you can feed the fry with a little hars boiled egg yolk strained through a hankerchief. use very little!!

i be whoever has said it perfectly...they are prolific breeders (just like guppies) and so long as you have plants (preferably live plants, as they like to eat on them) the majority will survive....you may however lose a female if any prove to be a glutton, as a few of mine did...but you don't want a glutton anyway so its best they are "culled"...believe me you will have tons more to replace them without worrying about inbreeding. what i mean by glutton is a female sometimes will stuff herself eating so many babies it kills her...which to my way of thinking, is only what she deserves for being such a greedy little pig. if you don't use it already, a small amount of aquarium salt will help keep down ick and other problems, since you really don't want to have to medicate the tank with babies in it. at least not til they are older. good luck with your upcoming nursery.

Swordtails are livebearers. They are almost always pregnant since they can use sperm more than once. So is you livebearer pregnant? Yes, and do bears crap in the woods? I would try to watch the birthing process, it's very interesting.
