The AC leaked all over our sheetrock on the roof and on our brand new carpet. The builder said this happens sometimes and that they are replacing everything. This is our first home and I'm just wondering if this is indeed "normal" to happen. He said theres no way to know if the AC will leak unless they turn it on which they did, and of course it leaked.

Even though it is a new home, I highly recommend you get a home inspection before you close.

The A/C installer should have taken a gallon of water and tested the condensate line. This is not normal to have it leak. The builder is blowing smoke. I'm with the others...get the place inspected by an independent inspector. It will cost you $300-$600, but well worth the investment as compared to what else you may find.

RUN from that home. Don't buy it!

The builder should have already checked the AC before you looked at the house. Since he didn't and it caused damage; just imagine what else is wrong with the house once you live in it and find out.

Trust me on this, GET A INDEPENDENT HOME INSPECTOR NOW if you still want the house. Had I have had one 11 years ago, I wouldn't have bought this house. Windows don't shut, the waterheater almost caused a fire, and the well water smells.

Good luck.

Don't worry....... Every house built has certain little problems due to Subs cutting corners or "simple mistakes" or possibly a component malfunction. Happened to me in constructing a 600 sq.ft house. It's repairable and would be warrantied. Have the builder fix the problem and note it in your purchase agreement. Although I would advise you to get an independent home inspection to protect yourself. Whatever found in this inspection the builder will correct before the sale is complete.

No, it is not normal. It is poor construction and/or oversight.
It sounds like the condensation line was not connected properly.
You may want to hire an independent inspector to find any other 'normal' oddities.

sounds like they have been honest but allways get it in writing you will have a new home 6 year guarentee anything at all that seems amiss report to the builder and pester the life out of them until you have satisfaction

It's normal for bad construction. Reconsider your purchase.
