food smells, especially meat
to prevent them entering the door you could hang a beaded or mesh curtain across it
by an open window put a lidded jam jar with holes punched in it. half fill with water, 1/4 cup vinegar & 1/4 cup of sugar. this will prevent them coming in.
also, i believe either mint or eucalyptus deters them - fresh or in oil form.

I think it is just something to do with the warmer weather when there are more of them about. In winter we don't have that problem. Leaving windows and doors open seems to draw their attention. If your wheelie bin was a mile away it would make no difference. Where ever they find an open space they get in.

I have a covered patio at my back door and they fly around there also. I asked some people and they said its the warmth of the house they like. We bought a bug zapper but it really only helps at night. They do make fly trappers that look like the yellow bee ones also.

If flies are breeding in your wheelie bin, they can easily fly around to your back door. Try to eliminate places where they can breed. (Usually if the trash is picked up once a week, it doesn't give them time to breed there, though.) Look for where there can be maggots (dog poo, dead rats, whatever) and clean it up.

I always think that flys are really stupid, as they never follow the fresh air out to the window, do they?
Maybe thet can smell food in the kitchen? LOL, do they even have a sense of smell? I dont know, I really dislike them though.

Flies are dirty stupid things that come into the house looking for sweet things to s**t on and do other filthy things. Flies are the most dangerous threat to our health, according to the World Health Organisation.

ah stella it would be the artois that attracts them... they are not attracted to your bin they are put on earth to torment us mere mortals. if it is a nice warm sunny day and we are feeling good and enjoying it then they must come and give us something to moan about..... tip of day - fly spray

My electronic 'executor' fly swatter has them flying as fast as their wings can carry them outta my house, it's great. It's the business

if you are attracting flies to your back door then you have to stat cleaning your bottom properly lol -no ive no idea ive just bought a zapper to swat the swines

If they can smell food then that is what will attract them. Any place where they can place their smelly feet on and lay their eggs will atrract them.
They stink.
