I have the freedom to believe what I want to believe. Some people smile or laugh about my beliefs, some think it is wrong. But all of that doesn't mean I haven't got the freedom.

Of course. However, you do have a problem if you choose to believe. There are negative consequences associated with incorrect beliefs. If you want to avoid the negative consequences you have to find some manner of identifying truth.

Any intellect anywhere in the universe has only one choice and it is not in the sense of generating knowledge definitive. It is the application of non-contradiction. If the true answer is not immediately evident we let an idea stand until we encounter a contraction. We make a choice at this point and go on. If the original idea survives countless attacks at leads us back to the initiating thought after a complete exploration of reality, it stands as a truth with one caveat, it encounters no contradictions in future experiences. It takes a good deal of time for hard issues.

If one knows what the truth is he need not believe and there will be no negative consequences.

Any belief you currently hold was given to you and if dropped will only be replaced by another. The very idea that you must pursue a thing called 'freedom' and that this 'freedom' exists as a state outside of you is the very idea that drives you to ask these questions.
All beliefs are based on knowledge and this knowledge is the result of our imagined separation from the natural universe. The very imagined idea of separation is the same imagined idea that you have or need freedom.

Of course you do! Then you want to share what you believe with others! Herein lies the problem! As soon as someone disagrees with us, we try to change their opinion to match ours!
I know I get really angry when someone bashes what I believe, in any forum, so I bash their opinion right back! That is why this country is so wonderful! We have the right to do this! AND THAT IS CALLED FREEDOM TO BELIEVE WHAT YOU WANT! So , yes we truly have the freedom to think and believe what we want to.

I do. The question should be this: Do you want to believe what you decide is the truth, or what others tell you is the truth. Freedom to believe comes with the responsibility to explore the issue and make a sound decision; not to listen to politicized special interests, such a religious groups, consumer groups, corporate groups, political parties.

Make up you own mind, but do it honestly, with good solid hard facts. And then, once you believe it is true and you can back it up, do not back down. It is okay to be the only who believes the way you do, if you have the facts on your side.

Not in the world we live in now. I thought inside the states was safe from terorism, look what happened.. Whatever you believe reality always comes and hits you right between the eyes! Our destiny is controlled by forces beyong our control, thats the truth, however painful it may be to accept, we no longer have the freedom to believe what we want.

I believe that here in America for the most part you do. After all that is one of the things that this country was founded on, freedom of religion.

As a being in this universe I gave up some of my rights as the nothingness I was before inorder to live. One of thouse rights I gave up to exist in this world was I gave up some freedoms to believe what I want in the sense that I now can only learn through others around me and by reflecting on what that means to self. So while I do have the freedom to believe what I want that beliefs come from what others have believed before me and how they acted upon thouse beliefs.

Yes I have the freedom to believe what I want but I don't always have the freedom to express my thoughts and beliefs to others.

Why wouldn't you? Each of us has a thought process and we develop our belief system as we grow and learn. Keeping an open mind is a good way to learn. If you truly believe in something and no one can change your belief, then there is your proof of freedom.
