That is likely a normal pattern growth... many north american softshell species have rings or spots on them. If the rings look mushy or smells, then it is fungus. If it has neither, then it is normal patterning and colour.

If you are not sure, feel free to post a link to a picture or email me and I can tell you right away what it is and whether or not the sfoty needs medical attention.

Something is not right here.

Is this really a Softshell Turtle? Slightly flipper-like front feet, long slender nose, not much pattern?

These are not common pet turtles, and not super easy to care for. They are very prone to fungal growth and it takes a lot of work to prevent this.
