If you are using Microsoft Word, go to "Insert" (after "File"-"View" on the tab), select symbol, and there's a lot of symbols, including the division (the dot/dot) and a small x for multiplication. For multiplication you can also use the parenthesis. Hope this helps :)

Factor EVERYTHING you can and then simplify EVERYTHING you can. (4x^2 - 4) = 4(x + 1)(x - 1) (1 - 2x^2 + x^4) = (1 - x^2)(1 - x^2) = (1 + x)(1 - x)(1 + x)(1 - x) 2x + 2 = 2(x + 1) Now, you can combine the fractions into one big fraction with all the numerators together and the denominators together, and then simplify. 4(x + 1)(x -1)(1 - x)(1 + x)(1 - x)(1 + x)(1 - x) --------------------------------------... (1 + x^2)(2)(x)(2)(x + 1) The 4 on top cancels with the 2's on the bottom, and the (x + 1) is common to both the numerator and denominator. Otherwise, unless you got some signs wrong typing it into the computer, your answer should be (x -1)(1 - x)(1 + x)(1 - x)(1 + x)(1 - x) --------------------------------------... (1 + x^2)(x) Which is the same thing as (x - 1)(1 - x)^3(1 + x)^2 --------------------------------- (1 + x^2)(x) 2.) Again, factor completely and combine as one giant fraction. 5(a + 1)(a - 1)(a - 10)(a + 1)(a^2) --------------------------------------... 3(4)(a - 10)(2)(1 - a^3) Which simplifies to 5(a^2)(a - 1)(a + 1)^2 --------------------- 24(1 - a^3) So unless you've got some parentheses wrong or something in the problems you typed in, these are the correct answers. Remember that (1 - x)^3 is different from 1 - x^3. (1 - x)^3 is the same thing as (1 - x)(1 - x)(1 - x), so it's possible you might need to retype them ( :

Well, seeing as how those are the ones we use, don't know what else we can give you.. do you know of something else we could be using, other than the globally accepted ones?
