The Cicadas and the noise (made by rubbing wings together) will die off after the mating season is over, in Mid August. Cicadas come above ground only to find a mate and lay eggs, at exactly the same location as the eggs were laid either 7/14 years before and the adults do not even eat. When the adult is crawling out of the hole in the ground, it is totally green, and then changes color and is able to move the wings within about 3 hours. The young live on tree roots. In our area, they prefer Oak trees.
