My air conditioning pump froze up and broke the surpentine belt. I had a mechanic replace the pump and belt. My question is what do I need to do to get it recharged . Also how do I plug the pump 's electrical plug back in. The mechanic said he unplugged it . I would like to save money and recharge it myself . if possible

you are wasting money by being cheap. chances are your new compressor won't work but a day or 2 if it not done correctly. you must flush the system, you must replace the liquid line/orifice tube, you must replace the accumulator/drier, you must add the proper type and amount of oil and pull a 45 min vacuum on the system before recharging. don't be cheap have it done by someone who knows what they're doing or you will be throwing money down the toilet.

Bruce is correct in saying the other parts should be replaced and system vac'd, check for leaks, and correct amount of oil and freon added---any time a part of the a/c system is damaged, you run the risk of having debris or contaminates in the system that will clog it up and cause it not to work when you put the new parts in. Best to let a shop do it right. If it were a simple small leak and you wanted to do it yourself, I would say fine.

There is only one way to plug it in. go to your favorite autoparts store and buy about 4 or 5 cans of r134 with the gauge. There is only one connection it will connect to so your safe so watch the gauge.open the can Start the engine ,turn on the a/c and start filling until your in the green on the gauge.
