Anything i can do to stop animals from eating my plants?

i always find animals eating my plant. Is there something i can do for them to stop

like squirrels, rabbits

There are many solutions to this, but it mostly depends on what kind of animal is eating your plants. I don't like solutions that will kill the animal involved and I prefer not to use chemicals, as they can have unwanted side effects, and usually aren't real good for the environment.

Sometimes placing dog hair around the plants will deter animals, they smell the hair and think a dog is near by. I have seen fox urine for sale in some places, again this is a smell thing.

You should be able to find on line a solution of house hold items (mostly soap if memory serves) that you can spray on your plants that deer, rabbits, and others don't like the taste of.

Some animals can't figure out how to get around containers, I have heard that placing a coffee can around the base of a plant will keep rabbits from eating the plant, apparently they can't figure out how to get around it, I've never tried this personally though.

My mother goes around at night and puts plastic baggies over the buds on her wild flower garden, otherwise deer come through at night and eat the tops off. Not a really convenient solution, but it really does the trick.

I know this can be frustrating, keep trying things until you find something that works for you and your yard.

This is the BEST solution, devised by Dutch farmers to protect their lettuce and leafy green crops (although I have used it and it REALLY works):

1. To one pint of water, add 2 teaspoons of tabasco sauce and a tiny drop of washing up detergent.

2. Spray onto plants which are being eaten

3. Repeat spraying after heavy rains

Animals (rabbits, deer, squirrels) hate the hot taste this gives the foliage of any plant it is sprayed on: it won't harm the animal but it gives them a shock they remember and after a while they will start to avoid your garden. it doesn't harm the plants either (the pepper in tabasco is from a plant anyway, and diluting it out with water means that the salt and vinegar in tabasco sauce is too dilute to do any harm). the detergent is just added so that the liquid sticks to plant leaves when sprayed on and doesn't just roll off.

I don't have an answer just a similar question... I have deer eating my Mum and Petunias.Neither my dog or I need a hair cut and I know that works. I was told deer don't like Mums and that's what a lot people use around their gardens to stop deer from eating the other plants and flowers. I'll try the soap thing tonight and hopefully it will both work and not kill my plant

If the rabbits are the animals eating your vegetable plants .... try and sprinkle pepper around the perimeter of the area and most rabbits and squirrels will shy away!

Moth balls work well to keep deer away. Just pitch them out randomly around the garden. To keep rabbits and other pests from munching on your plants, sprinkle "baby powder" on the plant. It is very inexspensive and usually a household item. Repeat after rain or watering. This will not harm the plant or the critters. There are obviously no harmful chemicals or pesticides in it. All it does is dry their mouths out and they will soon move to your lawn or neighbors garden.
P.S. Don't tell the neighbor. HA HA

I cover my seed planting with a small mesh screen to keep off the birds and chickens.

Later I put a shield of the 1" sreening you can buy at the garden center. I made a lot of them a few years ago and I just store them for next year's use. Works well and it is very inexpensive.

Obviously, large plants like tomatoes are near impossible to protect using this type of method but you could make long tunnels for the beans and lettuces...

First you have to know what it might be than treat the plant or area accordingly. For example if it is deer you can use your urine to scare them off the perimeter - some animals are repelled by mint and others by soap plant. Try talking to your local animal control or nursery and they can offer some great and often inexpensive ways to protect your greenery and not harm the animals. Good Luck!

Surround the area with moth balls. be careful if you have small children or house pets. They are toxic if eaten.
