Why do we pay so much interest to celebrities? Are they really better than us normal people?

No. Everybody has flaws. It's just that us, a people with flaws, find it fascinating to imagine and look at "flawless" people. Yet, those who we invision as being perfect, are no more than normal people, like us. The only difference is talent (except in Paris Hilton's case), professional make-up artists, money to get plastic surgeries with, and graphic alterations to make them look better on the cover of magazines and the like... Really, celebrities usually do not make good role models. Besides, it's us "normal" people that keep the country running anyways. If we were all like the celebrities, we would all starve, because there would be no farmers to supply food. We'd all be naked, because nobody would be making clothes. And... We'd all be homeless, because nobody would build us a shelter. So, remember. You're much more important than any celebrity!

This pop culture is out of control. People live through someones' else life instead of making something for themselves. That's why we have Nichole Ritchie, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears etc.. with very little talent but have huge pocket books. Instead of admiring scientists, doctors, poets, composers etc... people with real talent, we pay just to know where celebrities eat dinner, what type of clothes they're wearing so we can buy the same thing.... Those people do not effect my life whatsoever. I may see the movie if I know there is a good actor who plays the part. Other than that, I couldn't careless about celebrities. It's all about marketing. They create fantasy for people who can't do much for themselves but living through celebrities' lifestyle.

No, they're not better than us. Matter of fact, they are worst because they have too much money and do not know what to do with themselves. That's why they all do drugs and drink like no tomorrow. They live and breathe in fantasy land. Without people repeatdly assure that they're beautiful and rich, without those words, they will die lonely or eventually end up in rehab.

I've often thought the same thing. I have no interest in celebrities, their lives, their politics, their misfortunes, etc. I think shows like Entertainment Tonight are a joke.

Perhaps its a way for people to fantasize and see "how the other side" lives. Maybe its a way for them to escape from their own lives for a few moments.

For me, I have so much going on in my life and so many things to see and do and learn, I wouldn't waste a spare second thinking about what some celebrity is doing.

I believe that people have such an interest in celebrities because they are potrayed in movies as almost perfect. They have some problems throughout the movie but in the end it always works out while as in real life problems can have lasting effects. The media potrays them as perfect and says that that is what all of us are supposed to want to be and look like. I mean really if all of the actors and actresses being hired in the film industry were all obese there wouldn't be so much hatred towards obese people. Just my opinion.

Better? Money and fame doesn't make people better. Many celebrities live lives that are simply disgusting. I have no interest in their personal lives. People who do obsess over celebs must have something missing in their own lives.
