That would have been Bill Clinton with his economics graphs while he was running for President. Prior to that I would say John F Kennedy over the Cuban Missile crisis, as being a real crisis.
You can't use George Bush's lies as a example, since they have been proved as being false information.

Kennedy, I believe.

Though Carter, reviled though he was, made great contributions AFTER he left office, and redeemed himself in many eyes, inspiring people all over the country to get involved in home building.

Pretty much after that, selfishness has been the credo here in America.

Remember that Reagan, asked what the American Dream was during a debate, said, To make lots of money..." When the public accepted that without blinking, I knew both the leaders and the people were lost to our traditions.

Clinton was all about self interest, and Bush... well let's just say he doesn't inspire most people. Sorry, he doesn't.

I can only think of Kennedy. It's possible Jimmy Carter, who promoted peace rather than war, was another one.

If you go back and listen to one of President Bush's first speeches, he inspired us to develop alternative fuels. At the school science fair in 2001, the first place winner in my school district did a project on developing hydrogen fuel for cars.

JFK Quote said something like this "tis not what your country can do for you, tis what you can do for your country". You might want to verify the specific words.
