I've replaced the air filter, the spark plug, and when I found that I wasn't getting a spark, I replaced the armiture. It is my grandparents' lawnmower, and I believe it's been sitting for about 6-8 months.

Is the armiture the spark plug cable?
What about checking the fuel filter?
Maybe the gas is stale as well.
Is there a safety bar that needs to be held down while running?

You don't say whether replacing the armature solved the no spark problem. Assuming it did not, since solid state ignitions seldom fail, check the kill switch to see if it is grounding out.
If there is spark, then you can try draining the gas tank and adding fresh gas. Once that is done, remove the air filter element and add just a couple of drops of the fresh gas straight into the carburetor. Close up the air cleaner and start it up. If it keeps running, let it run for at least five minutes at full throttle. If it stops running, you will need a carburetor cleaning done by a pro since the carburetor must be completely disassembled, cleaned and rebuilt.

The most likely cause is fuel. Try removing the air filter and putting a few drops of gas directly into the carburator. If it fires when you do this it is most likely the carb. It will need to be removed and cleaned and put back together with a rebuild kit. Not sure how you checked for spark but without a good tester it is sometimes hard to determine for sure. I just repaired on that had the sparkplug wire pinched between the cowling parts.

ok... look at the large wheel on top of the motor... with the fins on top of it... under this is the magneto... the ting that creats the electricity for the spart plugs...... look to see if there is any rust on it ( the underside) you dont need to remove it.... Ok... if rusty... spray wd 40 wait 20 mins wipe off do same again.... this should loosen the rust... Then try to start it.....
Check all wires however small... make sure no cracks or splits and that all connections are corrosion free..
The try again..........
Ok ... also look inside the park plug lead boot... where it connects to the spark plug.. it may be rusty inside too.. clean it... also check the lead to make sure it isnt cracked or split... even a small split can loose your spark...

If you replaced the armature, you have to gap it.
