Soak them in CLR or some crap like that. Why do want to clean them? I would throw them out with the rubbish.

Pour dry rice, salt, vinegar, and a drop or two of dishsoap. You want the vinegar to fill it halfway. Now, shake and shake the bottle, let it sit a few minutes, shake some more. Keep this treatment up till they sparkle. On the outside, wash in vinegar, and you can use a Mr. Clean Eraser on the tough stains. Wash them well and rinse, your bottles should be gorgeous when done! Good Luck!

Fill the sink with warm water. Drop in 3-4 denture cleaning tablets. Allow bottle to soak overnight. Wash and rinse as usual.

at first when you said old bottles I thought you meant glass bottoes. But if they are metal then a rust remover would be your best bet and you can get that at a hardware store. If I recall correctly, you'd need to paint over them to keep them from re-rusting, maybe clear nailpolish...or I've used 3-in-1 oil to prevent metal parts on my car from re-rusting. Depends on how you will be storing your newfound treasure.

Soak them in bleach/water mix. Use toothpaste and toothbrush on tough spots. Vinegar and water also will work.
