Absolutely NOT. -_- This is going to be the death and ruin of us all if we keep this up. I can already see, from just my *limited* experience and perspective, how Western Civilization could fall *apart* in no less than FIVE different ways within the next ten years if we keep doing what we've been doing these past 26 years since Reagan:

--At some point we HAVE TO deal with the realities of global warming and pollution....question is, will we do it before or after the trees are all extinct?

--At some point we HAVE TO admit that globalization is a *huge* rip-off for both the developing world and for *ordinary workers* in the developed world. We have to admit this and do something *different* that lets ordinary people *all over* not just work for a living, but do so under fair and civilized labor and environmental standards. Enough with giving it all away to the billionaires!

--At some point we have to admit that Fundamentalism of *any* religious faith just cannot be allowed to stand if we are to continue to have a Western Civilization that *respects* human rights at all. It doesn't matter whether the agenda is Dominionist (evangelical Christianoid) or Wahabbi or Rammist or hardcore Zionist, we *must* do away with the zealots before they get the chance to do the same to us.

And just so we are clear, I am *not* talking about ordinary people who go to church or mosque....I am talking about the *nutjobs* who want their church or mosque to take over the *world*, ok??

--At some point, we have to address the ticking time bomb in America as regards *mental health* issues. We have to. The CEOs and HMOs would be *sued* out of existence if they even tried to *deny care* and stigmatize people over having cancer or heart disease, the way they do now over having depression or other common and *treatable* mental illnesses. And frankly, the attitudes of politicians and police forces ("she's cuffed now, so *zap her* with the taser until she dies and the *other mopes are quiet*!") are getting downright medieval here too.

And for 95% of the mentally ill this isn't even necessary.

What is necessary is that we *STOP* letting people fall through the damned cracks, and that we *GIVE* people MORE chances to get themselves Better than we do to let themselves Go Postal.

--And at some point....we have to re-establish some balance again in our priorities. If governments spend money on the rich, they then need to *match that spending* on the poor. If governments spend money on the old, then they need to match that spending on the young.

As it stands, we *begrudge* spending a nickel on our poorest of the poor while we spend whole *dollars* on the richest of our rich. We *begrudge* spending any money at all on public schools or on children without parents or from broken homes or from single mothers.....but god forbid if the old and retired lose *one red cent* of their benefits--even the ones who are already rich.

See what I mean? It is, for the most part, hypocrisy. And it needs to stop so that *everyone* gets a halfway fair chance again.

But I've already said too much. ^_^ Point is, it *IS* appalling that we have to let these rich guys and their damned companies ruin it all for the rest of us.

Maybe Kurt Vonnegut was right. Maybe he had a point in _Player Piano_, you know, about the rich guys?

Thanks for your time! ^_^

This is an interesting question because I just finished reading a book about what really goes on in the fast food industry- it's called,"Fast Food Nation". The author, Eric Schlosser, primarily focuses on McDonalds and you wouldn't believe some of the things that company does to get your money! One of the things Ray Kroc (the founder of McDonalds) said that disturbed me greatly was that he designed the concept of Happy Meals for children so that they would have this positive memory of McDonalds formed in childhood- he compared ordering a Happy Meal to visiting one's grandparents! No, I am definitely NOT happy about letting amoral corporations like McDonalds exploiting children, people, and the horrible jobs (the actual killing of the cattle) done by poor Mexican immigrants who have lost hands, arms, and have slipped on the "Kill Floor" waist deep in blood, trying to clean it up. I think it's horrible to be covertly manipulated this way. Most people order fast food and don't think twice about "where" it came from and what's in the meat. (cow manure). I'm sure all corporations do big psychological tests on people to see what items will appeal to them. For example, McDonalds took some test subjects into a room and put their *food* in front of them, and turned the room different colors. If the room was green lit, people automatically thought the food was bad. They have this down to a science. Even in the creation of the primary colors in the franchises. I will never eat fast food again! ( I haven't in about a year anyway)

You and your corporations. Stand up and run your own business. The small businessman can still stand up to these guys.
