No, promises should only be made if its something you truly intend to do later and you should make them because you want to assure someone that you really are sincere about that something and so that in a way you bind yourself to it because you know that its something you should do as well.

The only kind of promises that are made to comfort fools are the empty, meaningless ones that some people just say because they know its the only way they´re going to get what they actually want...whatever that might be.

And honestly, i sometimes cant help but wonder, is it really foolish to choose to believe that someone is sincere rather than to assume that their words are just tools of manipulation? I guess im still kind of debating the question of whether naivety is the same thing as foolishness, in my head.

These days probably yes. A hundred years ago+ a promise was a contract and not many people broke them.

well it might be but you know all people are different. it might be a relief to them. but really no ones a fool.
