I wanted to get a Panamanian Red Rose Rump tarantula, but I heard that they are not to be handled at all, because if bitten, you would be messed up bad. I have a rose haired but I handle it often, and am not afraid if it bites me. I want a bigger tarantula (like a bird eating T) but I also want to be able to handle it from time to time. Any recommendations?

As a general rule if you want a handleable species choose one of the New World tarantulas (North, Central and South America). Unlike their Asian and African counterparts they use their irritating, fibreglass-like hairs as their main defense. The Old World spiders lack this and are more apt to bite in defense, their vemon is also stronger. I would question the info you were given about the Panamanian, unless someone had an allergy to their vemon there is no tarantula that can affect humans as badly as was described. There are no known human deaths from tarantulas.
I would suggest you check out some of the Brazilian species, they combine impressive size with a fairly docile nature.
