The Swift is the same car as the old Geo Metro. The Esteem is a slightly larger sedan, but neither is really competitive in their field. I'd look at a Kia Rio, Hyundai Accent, Ford Focus (after 2002), Toyota Yaris or Corolla, Chevy Aveo, Honda Fit, or Nissan Versa-all have great gas mileage and far more reliable than Suzukis.

In Canada, the Suzuki Swift is also sold as the Chevy Aveo and Pontiac Wave. They are all made in Korea by GM Daewoo. The Esteem is not available in Canada. Anyway, I guess it depend on what you want from a car.

Are you choosing between the latest models or the old models?
I personally think that the new Swift is a better, and nicer car than the Esteem. Although the Esteem has the advantage of the full-sized boot (trunk).
The Swift also does better on fuel, i.e: approx. 16 km/l or above.

So you wanta go around looking like some one who drives cheep cars? What about the good feeling you get looking at your self in store windows? Lack of esteem or completly not swift car does not have you worried. Just try to haul three co workers around to lunch in it with the A/C on and try to merge into 70 miles an hour traffic. Beginner cars the Nissan Versa is largest inside and most powerfull of the over 36 miles a gallon cars. Those cars are popular in India get run over in the USA by GMC Denali's

the new suzuki cars ain't so bad as the pre 2004 ones and as for the mitsubishis they're not that bad.. if u're gettin a freakin esteem i'd suggest u to not waste ur money.. one thing even if everything seems up to date its a pre 2000 suzuki, trust me it ain't gonna last from personal experience.. u go like the next 15000 miles n u're like payin more in repairs than the car's cost.. if u want a truly reliable car that can last to 300000 miles with no problem honda civics r the way to go.. mine's got 420000 miles on it, still runs real well..
