want to start using very red lipstick but I am kind of afraid it will look ridiculous. What are some good tips for wearing red lipstick without looking cheap or like a clown?

blot it.

go very minimal with the rest of your makeup, play down your eyes, just wear a bit of black eyeliner and masara.

wear your hair down and wavy, so its 'undone' not overly done up.

This is what I feel.

Using red lipstick will not make you look ridiculous, but if you dont wear any bright lipstick then the transition might look a little funny. So here's what you do.

Buy something that has a shade between your regular lipstick and dark red, use it for a while. Then get a lighter red and then go to dark red. So you wont look unnatural.

Try going with a more orange tone red than a pure ruby red. Red is very bright so go with a berry and stay away from satin finishes. Experiment with lipsticks before you spend a lot so that way when you get the right color you can buy one that is a little pricier with better results.

Red never looks ridiculous. Especially with people of Latin decent. Try Bee-Luscious Cosmetics at beeroyalproducts.com. Their products are amazing. I am also Latina. That is another thing that I like about the company, the owner is also Latin. I read it on their "about us" page.

Don't go with red. Just a sheer red or pink to accent your features. Jennifer Lopez is a good example, look at how she has her makeup, not when she did Selena, the red made her lips look so big, and she has beautiful lips. She is a good reference for you.

I wouldn't do red, you will look like a clown. If you insist, try a makeup consultant at your local Macy's.
