When you are sitting at a traffic signal, windows down, waiting for the light to change and someone pulls up in the next lane with a stereo blasting, that is sound pollution. Some noise is detrimental to plant and animal life as well, because of the decible levels, the pitch etc. Some sound is actually painful, other sounds are just annoying.
