Wisdom is the self looking back at self in the mirror and realizing that its not really you.

Knowledge is the self looking back at self in the mirror and thinking that could be me or it could be my reflection.

Wisdom is to realize.
Knowledge is to understand.

There are things to understand that you already realize.
There are things to realize that you already understand.

There is an old Native American saying...it goes something like "Knowledge is knowing the path, wisdom is walking the path."

This means that knowledge is everything you know, while wisdom is everything you do. A wise doctor knows how to treat his patient - a smart doctor can remember all his fancy Latin terms. A wise student gets their work done and respects the teachers - a smart student has an encyclopedic knowledge of many different things. A wise mother loves, teaches, and cares for her children - a smart mother knows parenting techniques.

The difference between wisdom and knowledge is action. It is possible to have one and not the other. Those who do fall flat on their face. People full of pure knowledge either let it sit in their brain doing nothing or spew out facts to whoever who listen. People who are wise but don't know much are viewed as stupid. My dad, for example, has moderate learning disabilities. He is not knowledgeable in academic respect because he reads and writes at a second grade level. But he has the wisdom to tell when a storm is coming, befriend wild animals, and build things.

Hopefully this helps answer your question. :)

We live in a culture where borders in definitions are blurred because we have discovered relativity.
Here is the generalized difference.

Knowledge is generated from the perspective of a non-relative existence. It is a collection of facts. The facts are only true in a given condition. Relativity demands a full understanding of all relevant factors before anything can be stated as knowledge. When this is done much knowledge has to be qualified.

Wisdom is equatable with understanding. Understanding is only possible with the acceptance of relativity and the discovery of the one true perspective. If there is more than one perspective, both understanding and wisdom are impossible as they will contain the contradictions of two incorrect perspectives. They are incorrect because neither completely describe reality as it is.

Wisdom or understanding originating form the singularly true perspective will naturally account for relativity in all responses. The slight difference between wisdom and understanding originate from the incomplete nature of wisdom. The wise person has learned how to accommodate for relativity by leaving questions open to interpretation and determination by the listener.

From the proper perspective understanding offers meaningful information according to what is presented. But again perspective interferes when the listener hears precise words but does not understand what they genuinely mean because they originate from a perspective different than theirs.

The whole problem in the world , today , revolves round these two thoroughly misunderstood words. A scientist in his wisdom , uses the knowledge to develop things for the betterment of mankind. An explosive device to make a road over a mountain; to make a tunnel; to mine importanr raw materials.

The same knowledge is used to blow up a town , a market in Iraq. They also claim to have wisdom to bring peace to their world by this means. In the process what was once an UNIVERSAL WISDOM is now a regional, religious , political wisdom.. But the knowledge is still the knowledge. It has no affiliation, strangely.

If you have knowledge you gain wisdom, if you have wisdom you gain knowlege. The word "philosophy" is derived from the Greek words philos (loving) and sophia (wisdom) and means "the love of wisdom". Early philosophers
were considered wise men and women, or sages, because they devoted themselves to asking "big questions": What is the meaning of life? Where did
everything come from? What is the nature of reality? The objective of this short paper is to enable the reader to understand what philosophy is and its
relationship to Theory of Knowledge Definition for wisdom:
- good sense: the ability to make sensible decisions and judgments based on personal knowledge and experience
- wise decision: good sense shown in a way of thinking, judgment, or action
- accumulated learning: accumulated knowledge of life or of a sphere of activity that has been gained through experience

Knowlegde is something someone has because they have information that is specific to a subject. People who are all knowing would have information on all subjects. Doctors have knowledge about medicine and lawyer have knowledge about law etc...

Wisdom is something someone exhibits when their knowlegde is applied effectively in life situations over time. So a doctor who has alot of experience applying their knowledge in a specific situation is likely to have a lot of wisdom determining best course of action in those specific types of situations when they occur.

Knowledge is amassing raw data: facts, dates, times and details of all sorts. Knowledge is a necessary component to wisdom. Wisdom, however, is the "wise" or appropriate application of what is known into practical action.Wisdom is the product of a culmination of knowledge, experience, and intuition.

"Knowledge speaks, wisdom listens"

Knowledge is the information. You may have a lot of knowledge but you don't know how to handle it; that's being unwise! Someone who is wise takes in the knowledge and understands it thoroughly! Example above: when knowledge speaks the wise would listen quietly and patiently and it will stay in his mind or thought but the daft would not know how to absorb this knowledge! Knowledge + Wisdom = Experience! :-)
Thank you for your question!
