Yes for humans it can be easier at times to keep believing the lies. The hurt and sense of loss to realize you've been duped aren't easy to deal with, that's a psychological thing.
Continue to believe the lies even if you know subconsciously they are false can be a defense mechanism to avoid the pain.
This does not only apply to politics but to human existence in general.

Honestly, I think a person's ability to search himself for the truth is a measure of maturity and intelligence. A person who can recognize his/her own weaknesses has a leg up; or, I like to think that way.
For instance: People who are adament about overturning Roe vs Wade have never had to make a decision about abortion. When they do make a decision based on the reality of the situation, mal formed fetuses', gang rape, etc., it's usually a rational decision to abort. Then do they become hypocrites?
The 'war on terror' in Iraq? Is that an attempt to 'Democratize' a regime? Or is it a mass deceit? Do we believe our President?
Thanks

For me... no... but then again I don't believe that I'm believing any lies. As a Conservative I try to have facts, not feelings, to back up my core beliefs.
