Remember that '84 draft when Hakeem was selected ahead of Jordan? I see the same thing happening with Oden and Durant. Does Greg Oden deserve all the hype he's getting? He wasn't even the best college player last season; that title belongs to Durant.

you're right. maybe in some ways durant is better than oden. but i bet oden's gonna be number one based on the fact that the blazers are gonna draft him. they're looking to get an inside offensive AND defensive presence in the post, something randolph doesnt have. they also want to clear salary space and start a younger group. they accomplish this by acquiring oden to fill in their PF position, complemented by roy and alridge. then they trade that randolph for another solid player.

besides, being the number one pick doesnt prove anything. look at michael olowakandi, darko milicic, and all those flops drafted with early picks. team scouts and gms more or less know their jobs and look for what the team needs. look at gilbert, barbosa, and boobie. all late 2nd round picks, but have evolved into stars in their own right.

Are you saying Hakeem was not a great player? Sam Bowie at #2 was a terrible pick but I would not blame anybody for picking Hakeem or Jordan.

Greg Oden played some awesome basketball last season. He looked like a man among boys. I would be a little concerned about his conditioning and penchant for fouls. I don't remember Jordan or Olajuwon ever spending so much time on the bench.

Durant is the real deal. Put aside his training camp workout numbers. He has the instant offense that the NBA has got to be drooling over. He handled himself pretty well on the defensive end also.

Based on the last ten games of the season, I thought Noah was easily the best player.

Durant has a possibility 2 b one of the greatest eva. Oden is a player that comes around about once ever decade...he has unbelievable potential (Oden). You do got a point in MJ's draft. But Durant to play his position needs to get stronger. He couldn't bench 185lbs. once. Mike Conley Jr. benched 185lbs. 13 times. If Durant was stronger I would b considering him more. Portland needs a big center so Greg Oden will be the #1 overall draft pick.

you have to realize that oden played most of the season with ONE hand because of an injury... then he had to adjust to playing with both hands after the injury healed... also, college and the NBA are two totally different entities so it's always hard to determine how a player will make the transition.

in the case of hakeem vs jordan, even though jordan's accomplishments outshine hakeem's, the dream wasn't exactly a bust like sam bowie.
