Mine would be Curtis Mayfields' 'Move On Up' - of course it'd sound nowt like the 1971 version - and I sound like a mixture of Lenny Henry and a council-house oik on an ASBO, but I often wonder if musicians, be they soul, rock or whatever after chosing their trade, made a decision to cover the song(s) that warmed them to creating music in th beginning?

If I had the vocal skills, instruments, etc. to cover a song, there would be so many songs that I would want to remake/cover such as a "House is Not a Home" by Dionne Warwick which was later covered by Luther Vandross, "Thieves In the Temple" by Prince, "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" by Rose Royce, "All I Do" by Stevie Wonder, etc.

But for my first remake I would flip the script like Lyfe Jennings and remake a hip hop joint. So the first song I would remake would have to be no other than "Smile" by Scarface feat.Johnny P & Tupac. Although it is a somewhat universal song, it would be great to re-create this song from a female standpoint.

Meatloaf's Bat out of Hell, I'm not a mad Meatloaf fan and only like some of his stuff but that for me was a classic. And for the second part of your query my grandson is a Blues rock guitarist and has said if he ever gets to do a recording deal his first track on the first album would be a cover of Clapton's In Heaven. That was the one that gave him his musical direction.

If I could sing, then Aerosmith's 'Don't Want To Miss a Thing'.... and if I could play a great sax solo like Clarence Clemons on many of the Bruce Springsteen tracks or Pee Wee Ellis who played for Van Morrison I would be made up !

I would love to cover 'My Old Man's a Dustman' .... not in the old Lonnie Donnegan style but more a combination of new and tried sounds .... perhaps fronted by George Michael with the Chipmunks as backing.

Mine would be "When Did You Stop Loving Me, When Did I Stop Loving You" by the late Marvin Gaye. A close second would be "Take Me To The River" by Al Green. If you ever drive by someone singing those songs out to the top of his lungs... its probably ME!

I've been looking for someone to sample "Green Onions" by Booker T and the MG'S. The music is SWEET! I'm surprised a rapper hasn't added a deep bass line and rapped over it!

Golden Slumber by The Beatles. That's got to be my all-time favorite song.

"And in the end, the Love you take is equal to the Love you make."
