Yesterday, I had a yard sale and several people told me to have a nice day. But I showed them! I had a bad day cause I stayed married. Ha! (things haven't been going too well lately)
But hey, you can have a nice day just to spite me if you want - I don't mind.

i work in a call centre giving transport information and funnily enough the customers on the other end of the line tell me to have a nice day before i get the chance to wish them the same courtesy!

Just about every day I hear that. I sometimes end up doing the different just because I can't help it.

Us Brits are more likely to say 'have a good one mate'. I think 'have a nice day' is an American thing.

I hear this phrase at least 10 times a day. It makes me want to shout "I don't want to have a nice day." It seems like when a statement is way overused like this one that it loses all it's original meaning and just becomes some mindless drivel.
