I suspected that!! I work with reptiles and other animals and we had to buy some frozen mice for our snakes. The way the mice were huddled together was just like they were put in alive. I am sure the mice are supposed to be dead first but looking at the ones we got it did look like they were trying to get warm..

The store likely orders them frozen from a supplier. Commercial suppliers use carbon dioxide, that is the standardly accepted humane method that still keeps the rodents suitable for consumption. Freezing mammals to death is not humane.

i keep snakes and lizards and feed them mice. what they do is gas them to put them "to sleep" and then freeze them. the law in the uk is that you cant feed snakes with live prey, even though this would be a closer representation of what happens in the wild. hope this doesn't freak you out to much!!

I think so. They're supposed to use ether, but it's cheaper to just put them in the freezer.

They use a Carbon Dioxide chamber and slowly fill a large glass container with carbon dioxide . It is actually very humane . They slowly fall asleep then die .
