3 most common problems that cause this are:
IAC (idle air control) valve located by throttle body. remove it and clean with carburetor cleaner. usually helps.
also EGR valve leaking at idle.
vacuum leak. check all vacuum hoses for loose fit and cracks.
this all assumes it runs fine when not at idle.

A common failure on your car was the distributor rotor. Replace the rotor and distributor cap if you've never had an ignition tuneup, the spark plugs and plug wires. You also need to have the throttle plate and bore cleaned as well as the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve that the computer controls to set your idle speed which should be about 750 RPM at hot engine idle. Another thing that can make an engine stall other than those mentioned in answers above, is the transmission's Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) lockup solenoid not releasing when you slow down and come to a stop. If you notice applying your brake pedal affects the stall at all, the TCC could be the problem.

Vacuum leak? (little hose came off the engines intake making a hissing noise at the engine)
Stuck EGR valve open? Tough to diagnose if you're not familiar with them.

Those are the most common.

Hard to say,... it migh be one thing or a couple...

I would rather spend around $65.00 and have it tested,- OBDI (On Board Diagnostic 1) they may find the problem right then and there...

if we give you ideas and you drop money and parts on it but no fix, you'll wish you would have got it tested first!

but i'll say i might be a Throttle position sensor, maybe idles need adjustment, or maybe fuel pump is failing...

Best wishes! get a OBDi test

is the idle speed too low, it should be at least 700 to 800 rpm at idle with no loads on.
