Yeah it would be great if that happened wouldn't it?
Unfortunately we've still got the instinct which looks out for ourselves primarily, then our families, then our social networks, then our countrymen, then it gradually dilutes the further afield you go. The rest of the world are pretty low on the agenda when it comes to most people's decisions.
Maybe another few hundred generations of evolution will sort it out?

To a degree, this is true, but its hard for a country to function without this feeling of cohesion. To create this cohesion, decisions made by governments have to be done under the allusion of being the best for the country. For example, there is a particular theory which hypothesises that America cannot go more than 20 years without a war, or patriotism falls apart due to the cultural melting pot that they have. It could be said, that a society cannot go forward at all without partriotism, because then does the society even exist? What is it but a collection of citizens all with the land they live on in common?

patrionism will never become a thing of the past, the new generation wont stand for it. I think even im getting fed up with a load of polititians and the PC brigade telling me what to do, what to say and how I should do things. Im a big girl now and my freedom of thought will never be taken from me. I do know right from wrong and will make my own decisions and im very patriotic and intend to stay that way. Without patrionism no one will have pride in their country and that would be the end of a lot of sporting competitions that undoubtably rely on that patrionism for support and finance. Society can still go forward without us losing our sense of national identity.

Perhaps if all the globe conformed to the same utopian ideals then patriotism would become redundant.
However, there are so many countries and religions ,each with their own agenda that if we were to unilaterally surrender our support and ethics of our own nation (as many on the left desire),then we would simply be offering ourselves as fodder for those who dont share a similar utopian vision.
In essence,in the ugly real world, its a jungle out there and patriotism right or wrong encourages a nations population to defend ones land, goods, culture and people.

Patriotism is the feeling of loyalty for ones country, and engaging in behavior beneficial to our country. If our country is to continue to prosper it is important for us to understand that what makes this country so wonderful is opportunity. Opportunity is the magnet that attracts people from other countries to immigrate here. Our United States is huge. Just the United States, not including Canada and Mexico is almost as large as Europe, not including Russia.
We, as representative of the United States, contribute many benefits to other countries in the form of foreign aid. However, it is important to understand that any aid delivered to them will not compromise our security. When one considers the vastness of its area and the diversity of its population, it is truly a great place to live, learn, and prosper. This country is not perfect, however
freedom reigns here, even though attempts to
modify our constitutional rights continue, and our privacy has been reduced to almost none, we still have opportunity for success here, available no where else.

Yes, in certain point of view, this may be true.
The feelings of selfishness and limitedness are creating such decisions to be taken by the policy makers.
In fact its only through spirituality one can achieve a global solution beyond the barriers of region, religion, caste, sect, gender...
Only god consciousness is the solution for almost all the problems faced by todays world.
Because we are all the children of God and belong to one divine family, also we take the account of good and bad on our soul... realisation of such truths can really make the minds to work for good in terms of real sense but not on the limited terms.
It needs spiritual wisdom to achieve this

The members of the armed forces [and their families] would disagree with your premise.
I wouldn't expect you to have any understanding of something you can't even spell !
