You should be proud of him, and thank him for serving his country. Although I don't support the Iraq war, I do support our troops. They are brave men and women. As for this war, I think Bush made a terrible mistake and is now paying the price. He thinks just because of who he is he can get away with it. He has wasted so much of our nation's dollars financing a war that is obviously going nowhere. I hope the next president ends this war for good.

The war in Iraq is the most serious foreign policy error in our country's history. All blame aside, most agree that the intelligence that was used to justify the invasion was seriously flawed. Having overthrown the government that was in place, we have the resposibility of maintaining security while we assist the Iraqis in forming a stable government to replace Hussein's regime, which did provide stability of a sort, as loathsomely oppressive as it was.
This resposibility cannot be shirked, and all calls to pull out troops or to deny them the tools and support that they need to perform their mission are misguided in the extreme. We desparately need a clear definition of that mission, a workable plan to accomplish it, and resolute civilian leadership to set that plan in motion and see it through to completion.
I don't see any of those three crucial ingredients coming from either the current administration or from any of the candidates competing to replace it.
I wish I could provide some note of optimism, but unless someone emerges with a real plan, the current situation will continue until the voters force a future administration to withdraw while the Iraqi government is still too unstable and weak to funtion on its own, leaving the country vulnerable to either a prolonged civil war or a takeover by a regime that will make Hussein's seem relatively benign.
This will leave soldiers such as your friend angry and depressed and create further political divisions here in the States. Inevitably, some of the veterans will pursue a political carreer. It will be interesting to see the effect they have on our future.

I can't say that I or anyone can guarentee his safety, but I have now had a large number of my former students serve over in Iraq by now and all have come back safely (and some are still over there now). What your friend is doing is a very courageous and honorable thing, but it is also a scarry thing. It is ok to be worried but don't let it stop you from supporting him and being a friend to him.
Good Luck!!!

We're helping a country that needs help, and we're helping them pick up the pieces and make their own government until they don't need us anymore.
Okay liberals. What does that sound like? You got it, it's DARFUR. Practically the same thing is happening in Darfur, but you all want to pull out of Iraq and save some Africans going through the same kind of conflict. A little hypocritical I think. Why should we let the Iraqis die because we leave too soon, and then help some Africans while the Iraqis and everything we've worked for, for the past 7 years die?
Besides, if we help the people in Darfur, they'll probably just die of AIDS a few years later. Or they'll starve. Maybe both at the same time. And can anyone tell me, does AIDS have a cure? No, that's right.
So shut your yaps and kill the IRAQIS

Yes, the war in Iraq is not pretty. But, don't believe everything the media is reporting on. They do a great job in reporting on all the gloomy morbid stories, but they never talk about all the great things that are going on over there.
I have a friend over there right now. He signed up for the Marines after the war started and he knew what he was getting into. We are over there to secure Iraq's future. Yes, there are terrorists over there, but there are also a lot of great things going on over there.
I was reading an article in a golf magazine a while ago, and they were talking about how some golf company had sent over a putt putt set (probably more than one, Its been a while since I read it) for the Iraqi children. It was so amazing to see our US troops teaching the Iraqi children how to play golf. It is stories like that that are amazing to me. It shows that the soldiers over there aren't just a bunch of mindless robots like the media makes them look like.
On the nightly news, alls the American people see is US troops pointing their guns at people and car bombs going off...My friend keeps a photo album on facebook of what he sees in Iraq. Sure, some of the photos aren't pretty, but there are some photos of him and his buddies just hanging out and having a good time.
But, yes the situation in Iraq isn't that pretty, but there is a lot that is good that is going on over in Iraq right now. People like your friend who are in the Armed Forces are heroes to many Iraqi people. They had to deal with fear and oppression under Saddam's rule. Now, they still have to deal with fear, but they know that there is hope for the future. I will pray for your friend and his safety and for you. God bless our troops and God bless America.

First off God Bless your friend and thank him for me for serving his country. I do not fear terrorism right now on our own soil. I believe Iraqi children need to have at least a chance at freedom so they dont continue in the steps of their forefathers. That is my take on it.

That it was a mistake going in there. We should have limited the invasion to Afgahnastan (yes, I spelled it wrong....). We need our troops out ASAP!!!!
