It is restricted by the limitations of measurement available at the time of the experiment. It can not really truly "prove" anything - it can really only "prove" that something is probably true all the time. It can not prove or disprove anything that it can not measure. This means that science can NOT prove or disprove the existence of God, because no experiment can be devised that measures "God". Science does not explain the philosophical "why" of things - it only explains the "how" of things. It is subject to constant revision based on continued review. There's probably a lot more, but that's part of it.
