definitely...he's one of the only players to have 300+ wins and 150+ saves.....he's a great pitcher and if he retired now..i'm sure he's guaranteed his spot in the HOF....he's got a world series title as well....and he's still in the gme so he can get more....more wins...stats....i hope he gets into the HOF...i mean he's been in the game a long time...and he deserves it....

Yes. He has over 200 career wins and 150 saves. That is a rare feat in baseball. The only other pitcher to come close to that was Dennis Eckersley and he is in the Hall of Fame so it is pretty much a given that Smoltz will be there too.

I think so, though his bipolar career -- four years as a reliever -- makes him hard to compare to others across history. The nearest direct comp is Eckersley, and he's got a plaque, so on that tenuous but prudent comparison, it looks good for Smoltz. Those four seasons in the bullpen ranged from very good to utterly brilliant. And his sterling postseason performances only help.
We need to see where he finishes, of course. Speculate another two seasons (and maybe, not likely but maybe, a surprise NL CYA to pair with his 1996 award) of quality pitching and he'll have nailed shut his case.

John Smoltz has a better record than Dennis Eckersley and he's there. Smoltz won't have a problem. It's just a question of when. May not go first year, but he'll be there.

As a Yankee fan, I say "sure"!! Smoltz gave a large overall performance on August seventh against the Yankees, that we will bear in mind for an prolonged time! Bravo! of direction getting in as a courageous is a certain 2nd. even with each thing without his losses in interest 5 in 'ninety six and in interest 4 in 'ninety 9, the Yankees does no longer have gained those international sequence so certainly!
