A little of both isn't it? After all we support Israel,a country that really should never have come into existence really,I cannot see how anyone didn't see that it was a mistake from the start. And as a result of that support we are hated, just as they have always hated the Jewish people. But in the long run we would have had to deal with them anyway, the very teachings of Islam make it clear that anyone not under the control of Islam is sub-human. In fact to some level it may actually be good that Israel has been there, fighting them and keeping them in a perpetual state of disarray. After all with all the wealth being sent to that region because of oil,how dangerous would they have been if they had been able to just sit back and build military power with no opposition until the time came that they chose to try to impose their psychotic ideology on the world?

Islam=Oppression,death and hatred

Firstly, answer A is totally erronous. Everybody wants freedom and it is human nature to cherish freedom.

B maybe partly the answer. It is also because of the war in Iraq. I don't think anybody is benefiting from that.

You know, Israel wants to return the Golan hieghts to Syria in exchange for peace and end its military relations with Iran. US strongly backs this plan.

You see, there is little or no democracy in the Arab world. Those Middle Eastern despots will remain there for a very long time.

I am not saying that the US intentionally blocks democracy, but its policies in the Middle East certainly don't contribute democracy.

As if the Iraq invasion was meant to "liberate" the Iraqi people. How lame.

I feel that "all of the above" is correct. They do not like our freedom, particularly to women. We are allied and support Israel which is probably the biggest reason. Lastly, the fact that we are not observers of the Islam faith is also true when asked why we are hated in some Middle East countries.

B.

We overthrew Iran's democratic (pro-western) government in 1953, to get control of their oil, which we did until 1978. Our installation of the oppressive dictator, the Shah, lead to great civil unrest...which culminated in the Islamic revolution.

We helped Saddam Hussein maintain power, by giving him military technology and intelligence data during the 1980s. This made the U.S. accomplices to his abusive regime.
With U.S. help, Iraq murdered thousands of Iranian soldiers and citizens in a prolonged war during the 1980s. ...not to mention the U.S. shooting down an Iranian passenger jetliner during the 1980s.

We send billions of dollars to Israel every year...which is supporting a sexist, oppressive theocratic society...which is actively oppressing the non-Jews within their society (arabs mostly).

The U.S. helps keep the Saudi royal family in power. These people are oppressive monarchical oligarchs...which does not work well for the average citizen of Saudi Arabia.

Further, many of the Muslims are deeply offended by the U.S.'s placement of troops in the holy land of Saudi Arabia during the 1990s.

This placement of U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia during the 1990s is the #1 reason that Osama Bin Laden cited for attacking the U.S.

The bottom line? If the U.S. stops oppressing (directly or indirectly) the citizens of the Middle East, they will stop hating the U.S.

It's a very simple concept, if we stop screwing with them, they will stop screwing with us.

nope,C. the hypocracy of extremists like Nancy Pelosi. We need to be a country of commitment and honor not cut and run and cowardice. the bottom line here is we need to build a constructive era of cooperation as Condi Rice is trying to do, NOT negotiate with a known terrorist sympathizer like Syria as Pelosi attempted to.

The muslim religion is the main problem. It is a religion that fosters hate. I really don't care if anyone hates me and my country. Just don't mess with me.
