I'm 20, I basically have no friends. I'm uneasy around people if there is no task to complete (such as a job or a school project) and have never really had friends my whole life. I don't know how to make a friend or be a friend, let alone have a girlfriend. I want to have a family some day, but I really don't see it happening at this rate. What should I do? This makes me very sad sometimes :((

You're bound to break out of your shyness sometime, because one day and hopefully that one day is soon for you, you're going to get sick of being shy and really want to try and push yourself to become social.

Try practicing on people you're already acquainted with then try to apply that to random people when you're in an atmosphere for meeting new people.

Build up your confidence, and remember that you shouldn't fear anyone here on Earth. Make small talk with them, and then build from there. If the person doesn't engage in making small talk with you then just tell yourself, "their loss." Move on to the next person who will talk to you.

Now go out there and make some friends, and build on your social life! ^_^

Here is a tip: Carry an mp3 player/ipod/ cell phone around so you can always have some activity to do if you get to shy to talk to people.

Easy if you have a job begin to make friends there.
Then join a softball team, or a bowling league to make some friends.
hang out at a bar. Got to a gym. When one of the people in your town runs for elected office volunteer to help out you will make friends that way

So many opportunities. Never be depressed about what you cannot control. Because when you apply yourself you will be the utlitmate winner.

Good luck

You have internet friends see and now to step up for some social contact friends.

Have you tried or attempted joining groups? How about sports? It's a good way to start developing your whole being. I have a friend who developed her social skills when she took basketball for p.e. in college. Sometimes you have to sacrifice things to be able to achieve the things you want. Those things could be those things that hinders you in breaking out your shell. And have courage! Be confident! Set aside your fears for a while. Don't be afraid to try out new things. Besides. you have to start somewhere right. Just do it one step at a time.

Go out and find a group to volunteer with around your town. You will meet and interact with all kinds of people. Who knows, you may even find a special someone.
