I think people feel helpless to do anything about it and are just totally bamboozled by the level it's currently taken to. A mere ten years ago we voted out the Major govt in England for sleaze and lies that were benign in comparison to the crock of s**t we're being fed now.
Quite true that it doesn't make much difference which party you vote for, *think it would be worth us trying the LibDems in England instead of thinking they can't win as most do* it's time for *Orange Revolution* stylee protests of our own, a new Constitution for the kind of Government we want. Politicians are OUR servants, not us theirs!!!!! They need to be taught that too.

I don't know which country you are in, but there is nothing that compels you to vote for these people.
It is a sad fact of life that there is no such thing as a free lunch and the voting public would do well to learn this lesson. Every election, we seem to be seduced by the promise of more spending on health and education and, conversely, less of a tax burden.
How many times do we have to be suckered into falling for this before we realise that government spending has to be paid for somehow?
I don't trust any of them. Its not that they lie intentionally, its just that they honestly think they can make a difference without taxing us all to the gills........and, as honest as they may seem, the influence of power over a period of time seems to be ultimately corrupting to many of them, wahtever their political inclinations.

This is not new - it's just that the mass media make it more obvious.
Read "The Prince" by Machiavelli. It's not a novel, but a short manual on how to govern. Written about 500 years ago and still applicable today. It gives situations under which leaders should lie, or tell the truth; how to get taxes; when to ignore the populace; when to wage war,....

Politians start life out as Councilers , and as most Councilers are corrupt is it no wonder Politians are as well.
As for charging them , yes it should happen , but it is a matter for the system , and as the system is corrupt , it just does not work out the way it should
Everyone is well aware that corruption , goes on but at what level will they start acting to put a stop to it
It's not down to the system to change , it's down to the people to change the system , and untill that happens those who abuse there powers will contuine too

If someone lies, and if you want to meet out punishment, how would you prove it? To get a criminal conviction, you must prove beyond a reasonable doubt.
Remember, also, that many elected officials are lawyers. They know the law and know how to get around it. When elected officials go off the deep end, they are caught and prosecuted. The latest is William Jefferson, Representative from Louisiana.

I don't vote, because all politicians are liars.Political parties should be legally bound to carry out promises made in their manifesto's,other-wise,there is no point in voting. All mp's should have a free vote on all issues,& not be threatened & cajoled by party whips to follow the party line.Any-one who thinks we live in a democracy is brain-dead.

Your comments are understandable.
However, it seems that in todays world we all expect everyone else to be upfront, especially public servants.
We ask that they be transparent in their dealings and maintain an honourable standing in society.
But ask yourself this,
How would your personal standing be viewed by your friends, family and society if all your actions and intentions were laid bare for all to know?
Are you saying you never lie?
Maybe we expect others to maintain a standard that we ourselves fall short of?

As long as they support Israel the news media won't do much to point out their lies.

i think that, in some cases , it's the politician's duty to lie.. otherwise he's not a good politician.
it all depends on to whom his/her loyalty is to.
