Is anybody else getting tired of calling customer service for U.S. companies and end up talking to someone in India? The goverment claims they "outsource" jobs that Americans don't want yet countless people have been thrown out work. I can hardly understand these people and resent them getting my personal information. If they steal that information how will we be able to track them down. Why do they use names like Sam and Susie as if we'll beleive they're in the U.S? I've asked them and they will finally admit they're in New Delhi when I push them for an answer. Any thoughts?

The claim that the jobs being outsourced are ones Americans don't want is totally false. I left my last job because we were being outsourced. Before I got my new job, I would have to work with the people in India. Their work would have to be redone by us American workers because it was usually wrong. The only advantage to the company was that they were cheaper, so if they made a lot of mistakes, it didn't matter as they were still costing less to pay than a US worker.

Before you codemn outsourcing, be careful. Foreign companies insource jobs to the US at a higher rate then we outsource.

The biggest reason companies outsource is not so much that americans won't do the work; it is that we as a society feel we are above these jobs, especially since they will pay minimum wage in the states.

We do however in a capitalist society have the option to not purchase from these companies. If this is such a problem by only US Made goods and ensure the customer service is handled soley within the US. It the american people that have to drive this change.

I don't like to deal with people in India. Even though they speak English, there is still a language barrier. No one is claiming the people in the US don't want the outsourced jobs. Companies do it to get cheaper labor. If you had to pay a computer programmer $80,000 a year and can get an Indian programmer for $40,000 a year, with no added expenses for benefits, which would you do?
If someone steals your personal information, you can take action against the employer.
I once had a problem with Dell parts. I ended up having a conference call with a Mexican customer service rep in southern Texas and an Indian tech rep in southern India. Can you just imagine how that conversation went?

While I tend to agree with you in some small way, you also have to consider the nature of the thing you are against. Outsourcing is a part of "business". Although many people wish these jobs could be given to American's, they must also consider the results. If Cingular wireless hired only American customer service reps, all located within the continguous US, then....it would cost $7/hr vs. the $1.50/hr they pay Indians...the price of cell phones increase, the price of each text message, the price of service, etc. So, if you cut out outsourcing, then you increase prices. Cingular is in the business of making money. They have a profit margin which they wish to maintain. By outsourcing, they are able to meet their profits while still keeping costs down for us. If every business was concerned with fairness to American workers, then not too many businesses would last because they'd be paying higher wages. So, in sum, although it kinda does suck, it's basically a necessary evil.

Outsourcing is a touchy issue. Generally companies are telling the truth, they are giving jobs that American's dont want.. but what the real deal is that they are giving away jobs at WAGES that Americans don't want. You have to look at this issue from a free market capitalist chairmain point of view. The primary goal of every business is to increase profit. Well if they can hire 20 arabs at 2 dollars an hour or 20 americans at 8 dollars an hour, which is going to bring them more profit? That answer is easy. I don't like having to deal with a language barrier either, but as an American, who believes in capitalism where each person is free to make their own career and earn as much profit as they legally can, I have to support outsourcing. If American's truely wanted these jobs we would be willing to compete with arabs by working for lower wages, which we will never do (cuz we would starve to death lol). Until then it will continue to happen. In the words of Abu.. Thank You, Come Again :)

You are complaining about the quality of the job not where it is being done right? Sounds like the 70s all over again, oh Japan is going to ruin us. Outsourcing is a complex subject, for the world as a whole it is good, it is spreading wealth. For the consumer it is good, keeps prices down. For the employed that want 1 job till retirement it is not good. One needs to be flexible career wise in today's world, this is where the complaints arise.

What does the US Government have to do with out sourcing ?

Do you really think the US Government told Dell, to send the customer help call center to India ?

You really think the US Government paid Dell to move the call center to India?

People have to understand, a business is there for one reason only,

To make money for the owners of that business

The Share holders.

Business's aren't there to employ people.

If you don't like out sourcing, then go start your own business and hire Americans.

Why do you just assume, that that is always someone else's job?

If you don't like it, then stop buying proiducts from companies that out source.

it may cost you more, but if you believe what your saying, then you should be willing to pay for it.

We've got the same thing happening in the UK although I notice on tv ads some companies stipulating 'UK call centres only' as a good selling point - it's done to save money of course, just like everything else. 'Susie' in Dehli will be being paid peanuts compared to her couterpart in the UK.

You are absolutely right, industry and the government are taking jobs away from Americans and getting the job done for cheaper wages. Loyalty is down the toilet.
