I have a UPS installed on my desktop. Whenever I check UPS functioning by switching off the power button (with which UPS is connected) it works fine, but when I switch off the main supply line of the house, the computer re-starts & all whole work is lost. That means the UPS didn't function at that time.
Please read carefully, I have already verified my UPS, by connecting a another NEW UPS to the computer, but the problem won't go. It again restarts when I cut off the main supply of the house. What could be the cause ? I have never come across such an issue. Kindly provide with specific reasons.
Thanks

Both the UPS (new & old) are functioning okay on my friends computers. Further, I have only connected CPU/Speakers & router thru UPS. Yes recently I attached a power extension thru which I have connect CPU/Speakers & router.
Or is it anything to do with type of electric supply I am getting in my house. Because I heard a humming sound from the speakers immediately when my CPU switches off.

by the sounds of it, the reaction time or start-up time is really slow.

How long are the cables in your house? if they are over 50 m, from the plug socket to your PC, then you may have problems with the electric is still in the wires.

Is your computer trying to draw as much powr as possible? DO you have every PCI slot full, CPU usage at 100% and tons of LEDs/ cold-cathodes? If so, your PC is trying to draw power from an empty line.

What is the details of your UPS? is you reaction time greater than 150ms (0.15 of a second). This is the bare minimum for a computer to have no power, and still run. The lower the number here, the better.

Have you tried with and without the Surge Protector? (I am assuming that you are using one because you were easily able to switch the outlet off.) The UPS system you are using more than likely has a surge protector built into it so it is safe to run it directly to the wall outlet.

I doubt that it has anything to do with your computer or the UPS system...so it is time to work backwards from there to find the problem. I personally have not come across this issue, but based on your troubleshooting you have eliminated the UPS and the Computer itself as being the problem.

Depending on the type of UPS you have, if tis a cheap one, the reaction time may be slow. As the price goes up, the cut-in time is much faster. Is it possible the UPS you bought is not for a computer specifically? More like a printer, fax, lights, or whatnot?

In order to modify the restart method, you must enter the computer's SETUP (the Bios) program (usually you hit a certain key, like DELETE or F10 right as the computer is first starting up) to change the "auto restart on power-up" option. Check with the computer's supplier if you are not sure how to enable this important feature.
