I work for the federal prison. There are a lot of snitches out there, many of the guys locked up for drugs were snitched on. One guy even turned in by a cousin, so the cousin could avoid jail time. Some of the others got put in for not snitching on their boss or bringing someone else down.
I think its more than 1% incarciration though.

Incarceration is big business in the U.S of A., both federal and state institutions plus a growing number of private institutions which contract there jails out to the highest bidder.
The whole world is full of "Snitches" in some form or another and whether they are in the legal system or just brown nosing the boss at work.

Doubt it. Some are, but probably most of the 1% behind bars were stupid enough to get caught on their own.

1 in 142 US residents are now in prison.

Thats not 1 percent but it is way too close for me.
