Palestine is the name of a former state that is now controlled by the Jews. At present it is neither a nation or state, but is an occupied territory.

Palestine was an area of the Ottoman empire. After world war one England had control of the area after it's collapse. The nation of Israel was created by the U.N. in 1948 and they have been fighting over there ever since.

I've been told that after Israel was created the Arab nations around it told the non Jewish people living there to clear out because they were coming in to kill every last Jew. Israel defeated them all in a big way. To this day these people that left are without a homeland and are still called refugees.

This is a very politically-charged question. Without wishing to duck it at all, it depends upon your definition of "nation" and "state". As many would be aware, most consider it to consist of territories on the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip. However, many Palestinians would also claim rights to land currently in Israel., and perhaps also elsewhere.
