Just wondering - I've noticed on a lot of male dancing latin costumes there is an arrow on the arm and at the front of the pants. Does anyone know what it is/what it's for?

Usually, if the costume is sponsored, a brand logo goes on the front of the pants and somewhere on the shirt too - can be on the slieve or on the front pocket. The purpose is to promote the brand. Also, if you buy a brand name costume, the logo is there as well, but you're free to remove it. I'm trying to think of a brand logo that would look like an arrow from far away. You can take a closer look at costumes on sale on http://www.dancesport.uk.com and see if I'm right.

Because it's part of the traditional costume in ballet. Also, it is much easier to do jumps, jetes, splits, ronde de jambes, plies, etc. etc. without having to cope with folds of material. You need something that clings like a second skin, and that's what they wear. They also wear a ballet belt, so as NOT to accentuate their 'package'. The belt helps to compress them and keep it all in a firm bundle. Some of the male ballet dancers are extraordinarily agile, lithe and flexible, and it's a pleasure to watch them dance. Unlike what some people think, they aren't all gay, either! There are a number of heterosexual males in ballet, and a number of very successful marriages between male and female ballet dancers.
