Wolves are known as 'The Dingles' by the fans of their local rival team: West Brom. The term refers to the Dingle family featured in ITV's Emmerdale: '...a bunch of fat, ugly, pig-ignorant thieves and petty crooks who live in a slum and do nothing but cause trouble!' I'm sure it's meant affectionately though!

It must be down to the soap Emmerdale where the "low-life" family are so-called. Blackburn Rovers fans call Burnley fans the Dingles. It is an insult

They are named after characters on Emmerdale. There is a place called 'Dingle Wood' near to Bilston too. I pass it every morning on my way to work.
